For the past thirty years, the colored-diamond market has been a one-way street: up. What almost no one outside the trade has noticed is that the street is now closing behind us.
Argyle is gone. The few remaining Canadian and African fancy-color streams have been swallowed by luxury conglomerates who now feed their own retail pipelines first. Independent cutters in Antwerp and Mumbai are retiring faster than apprentices are arriving. And the handful of family offices that still own the best historical goods have simply stopped selling.
In practical terms:
- Vivid pinks above 1 carat are now rarer in the open market than D-flawless whites above 50 carats
- Fancy intense blues larger than 0.70 ct have vanished from sight-holder lists entirely
- Natural fancy reds above 0.30 ct no longer exist outside of museum collections
We are currently holding what will likely be the final private parcels of consequence that can still move without auction publicity:
- 2.18 ct Vivid Pink, cushion modified brilliant, GIA Type IIa, flawless clarity, Argyle provenance – cut in 2019 before the mine closed forever
- 1.41 ct Fancy Deep Blue, radiant, GIA No fluorescence, perfect symmetry – one of only three stones this size released from a Canadian parcel in 2024
- 0.41 ct Fancy Red, pear shape, GIA The smallest but most important: the first red we have seen in private hands in six years
These three stones will never be listed with prices. They will not appear on Instagram, at Basel, or in any catalogue. They will be shown once – in person, under daylight, to one buyer each.
2025 is the last year this is still possible without a public record.
If you are reading this and already know you are that buyer, you also already know how to reach us.
